Winter

Well it's not officially Winter but I think we can safely say it is here on the Snake River Plains. Mostly keeping holed up and staying close to the fire. Hopefully I will get out on a camp next month and will have more pictures to post. Until then I hope you winter well, and here are a few pics of a camp I made back in 2011 with my good friend Dennis.

Where Have All the Deer Gone?

Been hunting over the past month and have come to the end with no success. Didn't even get off a shot.

See you in a Winter camp sometime.

A Modern Day Marie Dorion

Just found out that my lovely wife is with child. This would mean that on our recent trip into Independence Lakes she was actually carrying two children. She is most definitely a  modern day Marie Dorion.

 Actually carrying two children!!!
A trek in the White Cloud Mountains in 2014 expecting our first
Camp on Cache Peak also in 2014. This would be the boys very first camp all nice and warm in Mom's tummy!!!
Working on my Pierre Dorion persona. See you down the trail!

Independence Lakes

Over the weekend the family and I made our way up to the high country to Independence Lakes. This trip was an experiment for me  because we took a horse to pack our camp in. I've spent lots of time around horses working beef but never for packing. I don't have any period correct tack as of yet but the budget is tight right now so I'll have to do this in baby steps.

 On the trail.
 Time to play
One of the Independence lakes. This is the only one we saw as we were tired by the time we got to it, so we just made camp there.
 Nap time.
Enjoying the fire in the cool mountain air.
Enjoying a smoke while sitting out a thunder storm.

 Supper time.
The trapper sitting next to his fire.
Now there's a smile you can't help but loving.
 Coming back from morning watering.
This should be a painting. All packed up and ready to head out.
See you down the trail.

Pinedale Days 2016

Friday thru Sunday we had the pleasure of attending the events at the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale Wyoming. I got to learn how to skin beaver and had the privilege of meeting many good mountaineers. Thanks to everyone for being so friendly and willing to share your knowledge of mountaineer life.

 A comfortable camp

While there I got to meet a friend from the Muzzleloader Magazine's online forum, "The Campfire"

Donahue Basin

Over the weekend the family and I made a small camp in a spot I found several years ago. It's a little secluded hole with beautiful meadows and plenty of peace and quite. Nothing exciting happened on this camp just a lot of relaxation. We found some wild onions growing in the basin and enjoyed snacking on those.

This guy loves being in the mountains.
No I'm not doing a war dance.

 Washing some clothes.

 Le Canadian
About six or seven years ago, long before I had met my wife, I came up to Donahue and did some shooting. I lost my powder measure and every time I've been back I've stopped and looked for it with no success. So to keep up the tradition I showed my wife where I had been shooting and she walked over looked down and said, "Here it is." Seven years of looking!!! That woman sure does complete me.
The boy sporting his new wolf eared cap I made in camp.
All mountaineers, big or little, need a nap.

See you down the trail.
