Independence Lakes

Over the weekend the family and I made our way up to the high country to Independence Lakes. This trip was an experiment for me  because we took a horse to pack our camp in. I've spent lots of time around horses working beef but never for packing. I don't have any period correct tack as of yet but the budget is tight right now so I'll have to do this in baby steps.

 On the trail.
 Time to play
One of the Independence lakes. This is the only one we saw as we were tired by the time we got to it, so we just made camp there.
 Nap time.
Enjoying the fire in the cool mountain air.
Enjoying a smoke while sitting out a thunder storm.

 Supper time.
The trapper sitting next to his fire.
Now there's a smile you can't help but loving.
 Coming back from morning watering.
This should be a painting. All packed up and ready to head out.
See you down the trail.
